Oral history interview with David C. Gilbert, an African-American who recounts his childhood in Barry Farms neighborhood of Southeast, D.C. After serving in the military during the Vietnam War - an experience which profoundly influenced his views on face and politics - he returned to DC and moved to the Adams Morgan neighborhood. He recounts his experiences during the U Street Riots and immediately after when the devestation to the neighborhood led to severe food scarcity and whole blocks of businesses destroyed and Mr. Gilbert volunteered to deliver for the Howard University Food Distribution Center.David C.
