Deed of manumission dated June 18, 1852 by Jane Scott of Howard County, Maryland for her Negro slave named Mary J. Williams. Witnessed by Justices of the Peace David Feelemyer and E. C. Lyons on June 18 and recorded by Howard County clerk W. H. Worthington on September 11, the document identifies Mary J. Williams as age about 20 years and the former slave of Benjamine Scott and specifies her manumission take effect when her term of service ends 2 years from May 1, 1852. If Williams has children during her term of service, the male children will be manumitted when they turn 21 years of age, and the female children will be manumitted when they turn 18 years of age.
