This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:25, is a feature about the Southeastern Savoyards, which would later become Atlanta Lyric Theater. The program features audio excerpts from Rue and Sally Knapp, founders of the group, and Tedi Langdon, a performer. The second segment, which begins at 14:09, is a feature about plans for a march to be held on the 20th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington. The program features audio excerpts from Atlanta City Councilman John Lewis; Coretta Scott King, and Stanley Wise, formerly of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. The third segment, which begins at 21:48, is a feature about the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, Tennessee. The program features audio from a performance by storyteller Chuck Larkin, and Michael Parrot, a storyteller from Charlottsville, Virginia. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis."Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis.
