Sturge, Esther

Description

Holograph, signed with initials.Esther Sturge asks Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman: "Did you see the reply of the Austrian minister to the address from America on the Hungarian cause?" It "reflects so justly on the disgrace of the Americans; asks how they can, holding 3,000,000 of Bondsmen (Slaves) affect to legislate for Austria & meddle with her institutions etc." The fugitive slave Henson was cleared and "found truly honest." Esther Sturge deplores that private sentiments should mar the unity of anti-slavery efforts. Sturge asks if Maria W. Chapman's brother is fully recovered, "and how is thy dear Son?" Esther Sturge asks: "Have you met with my dear sister."
