Description

A black and white portrait taken around 1960 of William ""Doc"" Stewart, a Toledo pharmacist husband of Ella P. Stewart. As pharmacists the Stewarts became involved in their community giving advice and help on employment, housing and food. Mr. Stewart was one of the founders of an organization of black physicians, dentists, pharmacists and other health professionals called Toledo Allied Medical Society. He was prominent in civic and civil rights organizations. Mr. Stewart died in 1976 at the age of 83.
